It’s about time I write a review about this beauty. This D&G illuminator was a love at first sight. Even though it was one of my typical impulse buys, months after the purchase I’m still very happy with it.
But first, I have to mention one thing: this product is not a highlighter. I read some negative reviews about it where girls insisted this product does not deliver compared to traditional highlighters, but this is not that kind of product to start with. It’s much more nude and sheer. I personally use it and love it as a daylight highlighter as I like subtle glow, but if you are after more intense glow on your cheeks this product is not for you. D&G Illuminator is more of a face powder, quite a versatile one!
Dolce & Gabbana offer two face illuminators in their beauty line – the lighter one is #3 Eva, while darker one is #6 Shimmer.
Ideal for adding definition or achieving an effortless glow. Suitable for all skin types.
– Illuminating powder formulated with light reflective pigments
– Offers a transparent, luminous glow to any complexion
– Can be used to define cheekbones or illuminate the eyes
– Can also be used under the eye area
D&G illuminator in the shade Shimmer is neutral beige. It looks slightly pink in the pan, but on my fair cool-to-neutral toned skin, I don’t detect any of that pink. The powder is finely milled and packed with finest multi-coloured micro shimmer.
When applied sheer over the T-zone, it gives skin a beautiful, natural looking glow without any visible shimmer. In that department it is a step above Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders which, although I love, I find sometimes can look a bit greasy on the skin. With D&G Shimmer I don’t have that issue, it is the most natural looking illuminating face powder I’ve tried so far.

Other than performing its main task beautifully, another great thing about this product is its versatility. When used more intensely, the Shimmer is darker than my skin tone and I can use it to contour and highlight my cheeks at the same time. It can be used on the eyes as well. I love products that give me an opportunity to experiment and deliver in a more than one way. Especially when it comes to expensive, high-end makeup this is a big plus.
This illuminator comes in a sleek gold packaging, inside a black velvet pouch, and with a soft, usable brush. It has 15g of product and retails at £34.50 in the UK.
I’m curious to try other D&G beauty products as this first (and so far the only) one I enjoy so much. If you have any recommendations please share in the comments bellow!
