Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Massage & Body Oil

Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Massage & Body Oil

I’ve been under a lot of stress lately, spending many a long hour in the office and in front of a computer, resulting in uncomfortable muscle pain and disrupted sleep pattern. After a search for a body oil that could help me relax I chose Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Massage & Body Oil as it contains lavender, the scent I find very calming.

I hadn’t come across Aromatherapy Associates before, but this oil provoked me to find out more about the brand. Their website has a great “about us” section that explains their philosophy, history and provides information about aromatherapy. They are focusing on the body – using a combination of active botanicals and essential oils; and the mind – through sense of smell that has an effect on our emotional state. Aromatherapy Associates support fair trade, organic and traditional agriculture and believe plants grown without chemicals have more benefits and fewer side effects for the skin and body. They do not use mineral oils, GM ingredients, SLS, Petrolatum, Propylene Glycol, Parabens, Synthetic colours or fragrance and animal derivatives (except for silk and beeswax which are animal by-products) and do not test any of ingredients or finished products on animals.

The main ingredients in De-Stress Massage & Body Oil are: arnica montana flower extract which has antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties, lavender oil great for its relaxing and “pick-me-up” effects as well as its healing properties on irritated skin, cuts, bruises and bug bites. It also contains rosemary leaf oil, another antiseptic and anti-cellulite oil and ginger root oil which improves circulation.

Full list of ingredients:
Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Prunus Persica (Peach) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Melaleuca Leucadendron Cajuputi (Cajuput) Oil, Parfum**, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil, Juniperus Communis (Juniper) Fruit Oil, Pinus Sylvestris (Pine) Leaf Oil, Tocopherol, Geraniol*, Linalool*, Limonene*.
*Natural Essential Oil Contents **Natural Plant Extracts

Key benefits of De-stress Massage & Body Oil are its anti-inflammatory properties, it helps to heal bruisings, brings circulation to stiff muscles, eases muscular aches and pains. For its soothing properties it is recommended as a pre and post exercise treatment, but I find that it works just as well after a long day in front of a computer when my legs feel heavy. It’s a real treat in the evening when used on legs and shoulders. The scent is beautiful – the mixture makes it a bit old-fashioned (but in a good way!), it’s relaxing and it sticks around long enough to help me fall asleep. I haven’t noticed any moisturising or nourishing effects on the skin, but as a massage oil it does deliver on the promise. When I started using this oil I had a big bruise on my leg, normally they stick around for ages but with the use of this oil the bruise healed much quicker than I expected. The texture of the oil is runny, but the pump that comes with the packaging prevents the waste of the product.

I’ve been enjoying this a lot – it contains herbs whose scents I love, it sinks into the skin easily without leaving a greasy residue and it does help me relax. It’s a great choice for an evening pamper time, but note – it s not recommended for use during pregnancy. It retails for £41/100ml.

If you have a de-stress product that you love, or if you’ve tried any of the Aromatherapy Associates products please share bellow, I would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations!
