Comparison Swatches: Plummy Pink Blushes

Pink-Mauve-Plum blush comparison

I find mauve cheeks very flattering on my fair skin and easy to wear all year round. Bellow are the comparison swatches of some of my favourite shades – each beautiful in its own way and, in the eye of a blush lover, different enough from another.

Lancome Shimmer Violet Sunrise is a shade exclusive to the US (Lancome offers different shades for the European market compared to the US, with different colours, and fewer of them). Violet Sunrise is a true violet mauve, with blue undertone and a gold sparkle. The shimmer is similar to the Nars Oasis and Illamasqua Ambition. This blush is the coolest toned and darkest of the bunch.

Nars Oasis is a mauve with slightly brownish undertones and gold shimmer. Great neutral shade that will sculpt the cheeks.

Illamasqua Ambition is the most pink, lightest and brightest, also with gold shimmer. You can see the full review here.

MAC Plum Foolery is similar to Ambition, but with red undertones.

Hourglass Mood Exposure fits the pink-mauve category only when looked at in the pan. On my skin it transforms into an earthy, warm, brown shade. For that reason it is not ideal for cool toned complexions. It’s not shimmery, it has a lovely illuminating finish.

All of these blushes are of great quality, long lasting and pigmented. Except for the Hourglass Mood Exposure which will look better on neutral and warm toned complexions, the others would look great on most skin tones.

  1. I love nars oasis and mood exposure. Plum foolery is on my current want list and I’ve never heard of the other two but now I wanna go and look at more photos of them!

    1. You have to try Illamasqua Ambition, it’s such a pretty pink! I saw on your blog that you have Allure from Illamasqua, Ambition is the same formula and shimmer but different shade. x

  2. Some beautiful swatches here – I love the look of the Lancôme and the MAC especially! I think I have Oasis in palette form, and Ambition too but I haven’t pulled it out to use in a very long time.

  3. So pretty! I love blush. :) I haven’t used Lancôme blushes in forever, but I think they were some of the first non-drugstore blushes I splurged for. This shade is super pretty and makes me want to go back!
